Workout With A Smile

Let’s face it, workouts are hard…at least a good workout.  At least a challenge both mentally and physically.   Some days workouts can feel like torture.  But if I go into a workout with a bad attitude I’m more likely to quit or do it half heartedly.

In my boot camp class a kid saw his mom and said “you look miserable.”  Smile it will make the day go better.  I couldn’t help but giggle because we were all dying in that class was killer with suicide sprints and lots of planks & push-ups.  But smiling after completing each task helped me go onto the next…and deal with the soreness for the next few days.

Smiles aren’t always at the ready so encourage one in a few ways.

  • Wear a fun outfit.  Put on your favorite workout clothes that make you feel good about the progress you are making in your fitness.
  • Rock out to your favorite playlist.  Create several awesome play lists.  It’s nice to have a change up and when your favorite song plays it brings a smile.  I have a special playlist for hard days and my favorite song is on every playlist for fun.
  • Workout with friends.  Friends can always distract with a funny conversation and a good chat.  I can’t help but smile during a workout with friends as a way to kill two birds with one stone.  Workout and hangout at the same time.
  • Work for a reward.  And sometimes workouts just suck!  Whether it’s the time commitment or the hard work needed some days it’s easier to have a bad attitude or not workout at all.  Having mini rewards like and iTunes song for your playlists or working towards a big reward for completing a workout challenge should make you smile with pride.  Sure there’s a reward but it’s like a sticker on a chart…and who doesn’t love stickers.

The best smile of all is the smile after a good workout when you flop onto the couch and relax.

If you give a kid a cookie

20120423-022545.jpg

I was blessed to spend the day on Friday shopping with this little guy. Oh and his beautiful mom. So much fun spending time with them and watching him grow up. He used to be a floppy baby I thought was trying to leap from my arms at 2 weeks old & now he’s almost 2 years old trying to eat all my chocolate.

Don’t tell his mom but I want to keep him…at least until he starts crying. Then I’ll give him a cookie, and he’ll ask for a glass of milk. *please someone get that reference.

Last Week’s Goal’s

  • Enjoy mini vacation. As with any vacation you get some things done and some not. But I loved the break. It was perfect to relax and have time to do what I wanted even if not all on my list. Much more relaxed for the crazy month to come.
  • Organize the pantry. Good intentions and a good start but I have a stocked pantry. I did learn to use the app; get rid of some outdated items & start the organization to make it smoother. I want it organized in my phone and on the shelves.
  • Try new fitness class/activity. ; I love Zumba so I tried Aqua Zumba. It fit well with my schedule this week, same amazing teacher and I can keep up with one of the two classes regularly. Yep I did Aqua Zumba twice this week…once during a triple threat day.
  • Premade essential in fridge. Some wonderful basics from my food category and a few new ones fill my fridge. Perfect because horrendous allergy weather makes me want to work, workout & sleep. That’s it. Cooking doesn’t make the list.
  • Chat with friends I miss (this means you!). Okay I still suck. I was lucky enough to be near friends this week to chat. But finding the time to call is hard. And I am making myself really anxious abound the whole idea the longer I don’t do it. I need to come up with a plan because Just Do It isn’t working for me.
  • Finish closet project FINALLY! ; . IT’S DONE!!! I lied a bit when I said I’d show it finished. I didn’t think my drawers were super interesting. But I loved Friday’s post on why this new closet works for me.

This Week’s Goals

  • Family photos. Our wedding photos are beautiful and interesting. The situation wasn’t ideal with a hotter than normal day, me needing back surgery and Hunni doing all the last minute errands. We have wanted to take new couples shots for awhile and finally are this week. My friend is a photographer and I arranged a shoot with her so I’m excited.
  • Start packing. I have a big work trip in a week or so and hate figuring out what to take. I’m starting the packing now so I can worry about the other details as it gets closer.
  • Sleep. Sure I’ve been napping the allergy nap but not much rest. Time to prop myself up recliner style and get some shut eye.
  • Zumba for a cause. One thing I love about my Zumba instructor is her passion for the community. This Saturday we have a Zumba-thon for a fund in memory of a local teen. So important to give back in as many ways possible.
  • Date night. That crazy month I mentioned is crazy for us both. After the photo shoot while looking spiffy I’m taking Hunni on a date. He doesn’t know it yet and won’t because he doesn’t read my blog.
