It Ends with 101

Two and a half years ago I had lofty goals when setting my 101 goals in 1001 days.  The Day Zero project was great to set longer term goals and it was no surprised I jumped in.  I love goals: weekly goals, fitness goals and even a yearly set of goals.  After two months I eagerly pushed publish confident I could complete the 101 list in the 2.75 year time frame.

I set goal #101 to maintain the list and checked in regularly.  Quickly I realized some goals were a bit lofty.  I didn’t give up on them but did let them become a source of stress.  Other goals I created at a time and for person I was then but I am not now.  I substituted goals instead of abandoning them.

So here at the the end of the 1001 days I’m looking back at my 101 goals; those I accomplished and those I left behind.  For me goals only worthwhile if reviewed so here we go!

I am big on fitness goals to challenge me beyond my comfort zone.  I was a runner and trained hard for a 10K (#1) – which actually turned out to be a quarter marathon – in Hartford, CT.  I loved the race but was insane to complete it over Easter weekend.  However I still wear the shirt proudly and the medal hangs in my bedroom as a reminder I could do it.

While I loved the running, I enjoyed some more “fun” fitness activities.  Hiking the tallest Mountain in the Berkshires (#11) before I moved, snowshoeing multiple times (#10) has prepared me for this winter, taking a Zumba class turn me into a Zumba-holic (#13), participate in a a boot camp (#97) and another group exercise class (#98).

To make my workouts the best they could be I learned to use my Polar F6 to it’s full potential (#89) and then sold it to a friend and purchased a Polar FT7.  I love Polar products and they make me push myself.  With a faulty hip and not being able to run I skipped purchasing a Garmin and put the money towards other gym equipment.

The triathlon was a no go and honestly I don’t want to ever do one.  I set the goal believing I should because so many of my favorite bloggers were competing regularly and said anyone could.  But my body isn’t build for running anymore due to injuries and I cannot devote the proper amount of time to training for the race.  Instead I’ll happily cheer on my friends from the sidelines in blog comments.

Because of this list I pushed myself to pursue cultural experiences with Hunni and other friends.  Visits to Lenox, MA (#22) & Bennington, VT (#21), seeing a show on Broadway for my 30th birthday (#18), going to the spa for a massage (#36), as well as Boston and Philadelphia (#55 & #56).

Others were simple once I took the chance.  Participate in a book club, wear painted nails for a week, organized the recipes in my cabinet, do no work for one night, and wear make-up for a week, and make some blogger friends.

While I crossed off many of these tasks many others also remained uncompleted.  The reasons vary from cost to time to a change of heart.  I set goals for Hunni and I to take dance lessons, renew our vows, plan a trip for our anniversary and begin the adoption process.  We decided small activities like kayaking (#17) were more important to us than big events.  We have not adopted a baby but we are on the path.

Over the course of the 1001 days I could have worked on more of these goals.  However life circumstances and other desires pushed them aside.  I’m happy with what I’m accomplished and excited to construct a new list…a list for the next 1001 days.
