Not willing to give up for savings

Blogger vacation faux pas I preloaded a post but forgot to finish it before making it live. Now may I present to you the live version.

Hunni and I are working on making a budget work for us. We want to save money but have realized we each have a list of things we are not willing to give up. It’s a balancing act and are coming close after a few more conversations.

Healthy food: a must with allergies. Special stores, products, ling trips, and even border crossing legally. It’s a necessity to help enjoy the food and skip the allergic reactions. But I’ll also skip most organic or super fancy too in order to stay within budget.

Gym membership: This is my one big release. I don’t smoke, do drugs, drink or ::gasp:: even run any more. I need a gym to escape my house for stress relief after crazy job with unpredictable hours. I’m slightly picky and want access to a pool, classes, and lots of equipment especially in bad weather – 20 below Fahrenheit is no joke. A gym maintains my sanity after years of trying a home gym and balances many physical injuries and mental health.

Workout gear: Specifically shoes. I’ willing to bargain hunt on clothes but shoes, socks and support (braces) are important. My bargain hunting there lead to pain and injury. But I love a comfy wicking tank with a cut up T-shirt for workouts.

Travel: Not petty travel, and not usually far travel. We like excursions for kayaking, hiking, fun late night Zumba events, and races in the past. We even budget annually for vacation around a health conference we can also enjoy walking the scenery.

What must you have in your budget and why?

Last Week’s Goals

  • Work out. I’m actually proud of myself for doing more intentional workouts than I thought and much more unintentional than I ever thought.
  • Pack it twice. All that packing was too much. I broke it up into chuncks. Work trip is done. First part of vacation is done and honey is bringing the sexing part with him. Just realigned the priorities
  • Track my food. I’ve been paying more attention to what I eat and how much lately. ; I have been using the Lose It app and enjoy the ease. ; This busy week it is important
    • Work out. ; I’m not setting a number because this week is insane at work. ; But I know working out will relieve stress so I want to fit it in even if it’s only once.
    • Pack it twice. ; I have a work trip right before vacation. ; I need to pack for both. ; Luckily work is only for the weekend and is easy to pack. ; And I have my plan for vacation packing. ; It will fit into on bag so I don’t have to drag too much luggage through the hotel for Fitbloggin’.
    • Track my food. ; DONE!! And it has so much helped to understand why my body is changing even if the scale isn’t.
    • Sleep despite stress. I actually slept well. Out of pure exhaustion but I’ll take that over insomnia.

    • Work out with friends. this vacation has many parts and I have the fun of working out with old friends at all of them. It will be fun to catch up and sweat my behind off without worrying about work in the evening.
    • No work! I am going to try really hard on this one…honest. My brain is telling me all I can do “just little” things during the down time. But I need to relax my work-a-holic brain.
    • Eat for fun. Food has become a function. Forcing breakfast while running to the office, shoveling in lunch on the way to a meeting, and little bits of dinner post workout. I LOVE FOOD and cooking. For vacation I’m enjoying food and I’ll work on the cooking when I get back.
    • Pretty me up. I will see my old hairdresser and get to wear real clothes this trip. I’m taking full advantage and not even bringing anything I wear with my uniform. This is me me.
    • Give hugs. I WILL put my shy side on the back burner and open up to those who care about me. I love y’all and want to show it instead of being cold.

What goals do you make on vacation? How are they different than your day-to-day goals?
