Preparations You Don’t Know About

I was so prepared for this move.  I had lists upon list for everything I could imagine.  Pintrest really did save my move.

In fact I started planning before I officially knew I was moving.  There was so much to plan and my lists were out of control.

Oh but there are things no one ever tells you and aren’t on any moving help list.  The things they never make you think…and so here I am so you don’t miss them too.

  1. Not all medications transfer pharmacies. I had plenty of my refills available but not all medication laws are the same across state lines.  In the future I will have a brand new written prescription before moving to prevent any pharmacy trouble.
  2. Schedule doctor appointments before you arrive. I made a list of prospective doctors prior to our arrival.  I forgot how long an initial appointment can take and have to wait about 3 weeks.  Much better to schedule the first appointment beforehand so it’s ready when I arrive…that includes the dogs.
  3. Buy greeting cards and pre-address & stamp them. You know you’ll miss your friends…but you’ll also be super busy.  Busy some fun cards in advance putting on the stamps and addresses so all you need is to write a quick note of love and pop them in the mail.
  4. Plan simple meals for the first 2 weeks. Your groceries will be gone and so will your money after spending it all on moving.  Plan at least 10 meals you can cook with basic and cheap ingredients.  Make them something simple to cook for those harried days when you are still unpacking and getting ready to start a new job.  It will save time and money when you aren’t ordering takeout over and over.
  5. Change your cell phone number online.  If you go to a cell store there is a number transfer fee for each phone.  However most cell phone carriers allow you to transfer your number to your new area online.  You can even choose the date the new number begins before you even arrive.
  6. Know where to buy your necessities/favorites online.  We all get comfortable with our favorite grocery stores, clothing stores and even coffee shops.  It takes a bit to adjust to a new locale.  Before you move make sure you know where to buy must haves online if you can’t find them nearby.  A MUST if you are gluten free.

While in the midst of all the hectic moving stuff don’t forget what makes life normal for you.  Preparing for that now will help make your new home just as relaxing.

Last Week’s Goals

  • Eat lunch on time.  I may still be eating lunch later than normal but at least its only at 1PM instead of 5PM. I may need to master the art of eating at my desk for the time being.
  • Doctor Search.  Now I remember why I slacked on this pre-move…doctors are limited here; well at least doctors that take care of my interesting health issues.  Now I have several appointments scheduled and 2 more doctors to call.  You’d think they never listened to their voicemail.
  • Fun day, some day.  This week was busy…but we found the fun.  We may become small town bowlers.  The owner already recognized us from last week when we went with my cousins. Open-mouthed smile
  • Set a KINDA schedule.  This was the hardest…kinda.  My day-to-day schedule never stays the same.  But I’m learning to prioritize and actually got so much done early in the week Friday was simple.  Well as simple as my job can be.  Now to find a day for a day off.
  • Food!  Score…not only did I make menus and a list but I came in under budget.  My fridge actually has things I want to eat or can eat in it.
  • Work out the stress. My allergist appointment is scheduled this week so I had to take two days off the gym.  This sucks.  But it’s better than trying to breathe and relying on my inhaler while simply walking.

This Week’s Goals

  • Ace the Budget.  I am in love with a new app for my phone keeping out budget in order.  A necessity for life…oh and vacation and Fitbloggin coming up soon.
  • Finish my paperwork.  There is just so much of it.  Time to finish submitting paperwork and get all my documents in order.
  • Itchy Scratchy.  I’m super allergy girl so it took a bit to get into a board certified allergist but Tuesday is the appointment.  One thing for sure:  They are not giving me a scratch test.  I’m not keen on anaphylaxis again.  Although the paperwork did say prepare to be in the office for 5 hours?  Eeek!
  • Work out with friends.  I’m shy, I’m not just saying it.  But the girls at my regular Zumba class are so sweet.  I’m enjoying showing up a bit early and chatting with them.
  • Clean out the donations.  I have a box of items to donate with clothing that doesn’t fit and items I don’t know who bought.  No matter what the situation they need to get out of my house.  The last place to unpack is a few boxes and this pile of donations in my garage.  It’s going to get cold soon and I want to park my car in there.
