Hold My Hair Back and Forth

I’ve had hair as long as I can remember.  I think I was born with hair.  Momma, do you want to chime in?  Since then it’s been the task of keeping it under control.

The worst has to be when exercising.  Not only do I have to deal with my hair but it’s sticking my face because I do not glow…I definitely sweat.

I had a pixie cut for six months at age 25 and it was fantastic.  All I needed was a towel to wipe the sweat off my forehead.  Or lets be real…I often used the bottom of my shirt.

With the exception of those two months I’ve experimented with hair helpers.  My go to for years was an old fashioned bandana folded in half to cover my forehead and hair.  Occasionally I turned it into a headband for some 80’s-ish fun.

There were two main problems with my bandana.  First, my lovely sweat quadrupled when I started running and the absorption was lacking.  Second, my then gym banned them and called me a lunk head for wearing one.  I quickly changed head gear.

I tried a few other headbands to keep my hair in check and each have their merits.

Bondi Bands are the most well known in blog land and look great with my Zumba gear.  I have several fun colors to compliment my wardrobe and control my curls.

I enjoy the sweat maintenance and and cute factor.  I can even wear them in the pool for Aqua Zumba instead of whipping my hair back and forth into my eyeballs.  Now a few friends have ordered them.

My second choice is a Prana headband.  I bought it in the yoga studio right before class to hold my hair up in downward dog. It worked but not for my ideal.

I tend to wear this headband for light hold…kind of like hair spray.  Definitely not made to hold all my hair back or hold all the sweat.  But the two bands are good for keeping my curls in order.  I like wearing it when not working out because it just looks pretty.

When I run or do traditional cardio or lifting I choose between a few others.

My baby blues cannot handle running in the sun and I’ve never enjoyed running with sun glasses so I bought a visor.

The visor keeps my head cool and face from turning red like a lobster.  And it absorbed a lot of sweat like a headband in the brim…it’s just a pain to wash.  My biggest complaint is almost every female one was pink or purple.  I had to buy a men’s style to get basic black.

I really wanted cute head bands like so many others.  I purchased a pretty green floral Sweaty Bands while looking around for my visor.

Only problem – besides my messy dresser – is my big head.  Literally the circumference of my cranium.  These headbands are gorgeous but are not one-size-fits-all.  I would get massive migraines after an hour workout.

However my friend Katie has an Etsy store and makes the same headbands to order.

The headbands are fantastic.  They are an inch longer in the elastic and I can wear them all day long.  I have three and love them.  Polka dots, damask, and squares, oh my! They aren’t absorbent but the keep all my bangs and the curls off my face.  I tend to wear them for fashion or when I am not going to be drenched for a workout.

I’m sure I’ll find more stuff for my hair because I like to look pretty even when sweating to death.  I just don’t want my hair in my face.
