Make My Wardrobe a No–Brainer

Oh the joy of the sale rack.  Inexpensive clothing to add to my collection.  And often if I don’t fit into it now I can buy it on the cheap and hop it fits later.

I buy random pieces on sale hope they fit in.  Perhaps this is why my wardrobe looks like the sale rack itself.  A whole bunch of randomness; I can never find anything; and outfits don’t jump out at me.  My favorite outfit always seems to be at the bottom or in the wash.  Major problems.

My lack of fashion direction made it easy to spend most of my time in my work uniform, workout clothes and PJ’s. Comfy and safe from having to venture into the closet or dresser for “real” clothes.

One of my New Year’s Goals was to work on organization.  My closet was a great place to start.  I thought I had clothes in there but couldn’t find them and kept buying more.  The traditional wardrobe basics of classic white button down, trench coat, classic dress pants and a cashmere sweater would not fill out my basic wardrobe.  I don’t have anywhere to wear much of that.

The chapter on closet organization in this book was a good place to start and figure out what was even in there.  I actually found a shirt that belonged to a friend I forgot to return last year.  Oops.

But I was still left with no ideas of what to do with my wardrobe or what my style is.  A good friend suggested The No Brainer Wardrobe that had worked for her.  Click here to view more details  Word of mouth works is my best guide and I bought the book to start the process.

I joined Pintrest (follow me to see my boards) after avoiding it for a year to complete this.  I had to convince myself but am so glad I did.  I was able to pin things I not only enjoyed but would actually wear.  And, um, now my GReader is full of fashion blogs too. Smile

I wanted to keep pinning but I sorted through all my clothing after I washed it all.  I think the clothing multiplied in the wash because my bed was covered and then I had to fold it all.

After sorting and folding it all I could see patterns and compare them to the style I want to wear.  From there it was a matter of building.  I’ve found my go to outfit, created looks I like and made a list of things to fill in some holes.  Yeah for shopping.

Over the week’s I’ll be adding to my wardrobe but I wanted to show you some of the fun things I already in my closet and I had no idea.
