Silly Food Quirks

I love food but I’m a bit quirky.  Mixing of corn and potatoes is okay…But there are a few things I consider a MUST with food.

Cherries and olives must be whole.  They taste fantastic but the best part is sucking the last bits off the pit before spitting it into a dish.  I thank my Spanish host family for teaching me the love of the spit.

Crepes are pure joy.  Everyone should have at least one.  My childhood was full of banana and nutella for treats but now I love savory.  Throw some (non-dairy) cheese, olives and tomatoes in a crepe and I’m a happy girl.  So much so I learned to make a gluten free version; I’ll share it with you soon…I promise.

I love cooking despite my Cuh-razy allergies…it makes it an adventure.  But if I could have one meal back that wasn’t vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, etc., etc., etc.… It would be an authentic Philly Cheesesteak from Jim’s Steaks on South Street.  I recommend it to anyone traveling to Philly and enjoy it’s goodness.

The blog world loves hummus and can eat it by the Costco sized tub with a spoon.  But I prefer my hummus a bit grainy, still tasting like the garbanzo beans there were. Homemade or Tribe fit the bill.

The smell of coffee wakes me up more than taste.  I only drink it when I truly need more pep in my step.  Then it’s a bit of coffee with lots of coconut creamer and agave.

I’ll try anything once…or at least I have in the past.  Just don’t tell me what it is first.

  • octopus
  • guinea pig
  • ostrich
  • alligator
  • beef tongue
  • chocolate covered bugs
  • worms
  • and way more weird stuff I don’t even want to know.

I spent most of my childhood outside the USA so this was normal.  But I’m not as crazy as Andy Zimmern.

I like Peanut Butter. I like jelly. But I HATE Peanut butter and jelly. The two shall not meet in my house and never in my mouth.

I’m quirky and proud. What are your food quirks?
