Year in It All Changes

The craziness is over!  Hallelujah!

Now it’s time to reflect.  As a start to the week I returned to weekly goals and decided it was a perfect time to reflect on my yearly goals.  Come on really…what will I accomplish in this last week that isn’t like cramming for a test.  I was never a good crammer anyway.

Let’s see if I passed the test for a year in It All Changes.

My Bible Reading and Devotional Reading were challenging.

Life and reading were peachy until March…then it became spotty.  I could give a bunch of excuses like health and work and time and, and, and…yet they’re excuses.  The original goal was a devotional on a topic but I read a few other devotionals on several different things and my Bible reading was anything but chronological.  I didn’t give up the reading…I just gave up the specificity.

Vacationing is interesting.

Hunni and I enjoyed trips to visit friends and family and randomly wandering nearby towns…yet our big awesome vacation of the year didn’t happen.  This year we realized several other things besides a vacation were more important.

Money sucks but spending it is fun.

Okay I’m still working on the budgeting thing.  It’s really difficult when our work finances sometimes are combined with personal finances making it hard to budget.  This year we did much better at knowing where everything was going even if we couldn’t control it at all times.

It’s a happy blog world.

I’ve learned a lot this year with blogging.  I’ve learned to be more me in my writing, making great friends locally and while traveling to Healthy Living Summit and Fitbloggin’.  Speaking on a panel was a highlight to talk about something I love and the fun that blogging brings.  I never knew blogging would be so much work but bring so much joy…2011 was great.

Introducing the Read o’mattic Cynthia.

I never guessed when I created an A-Z book list I’ve come so close to finishing it.  I blew my goal of 12 books this year out of the water.  IMG_4484

Fifty-three books later I’m so happy to be enjoying my Nook and exploring more of the library.  I’m working on the remainder of the list and exploring new & old books to try. (My next one: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green…two days before my birthday!!!)

The races that were not.

My original goal was 5 races this year…I ran 3.  And I’m okay with it.  My body hates the outdoors during running season and I found other fun exercisesDSCN1377Yoga, strength and stretch weren’t weekly but I’m okay with that too.  Finding a balance that worked for me was the best lesson learned this year.

Food, glorious food.

Hunni and I enjoyed a few good meals out using Groupon and Living Social but they were so much better than random eating out just because.  Confession: The summer was rough with lots of cereal and soup at home but it was still at home. And the freezer was stocked with home cooked meals to take care (okay that sounded like the Christmas story in my mind).  Bonus we still have some meals for January to enjoy as I rev up cooking again.

So 2011 wasn’t all I thought it would be.  Yet in many ways it was so much more.  I’m revamping my yearly goals for 2012…Check back later for the new goals.
