In April Hunni and I spent several days stuffing 3000 envelops for a work event. Just me and Hunni with the dogs staring at us all night long as we mindlessly stuffed envelope after envelope, one at a time; not to mention address labels, stamps and envelope licking. Good thing neither of us is George’s finance.
After we’d exhausted Lock-up and Criminal Minds (I love Dr. Spencer Reid) repeats we needed something else to entertain us…and late-night infomercials were not going to cut it.
We’re not Siskel & Ebert or Ebert & Roper…but here ya go…probably more like Statler & Waldorf from the Muppets Theater.
I bated Hunni into writing – or at least dictating – his thoughts on each movie…after we caught up on sleep.
The Switch
Basic Plot: Jason Bateman & Jennifer Anniston play life long best friends. She decides to have a baby as a single woman and he accidentally makes a “switch” while drunk. Let the funny drama begin.
Cynthia Says: Not the typical romantic comedy I was expecting. Every twist I thought was coming didn’t follow through to the typical “chick flick” conclusion. Sebastian, the kid, steals the show as a mini-Bateman. I would have seen this in the theatre if the trailer was better. For me it’s a thumbs up. ![]()
Hunni Says: Cynthia asked to watch it first. I agreed figuring if it was horrible we had an entire evening of other movies to make up for it. I enjoyed some parts, especially the neurotic kid…I still quote him. Everything else was cheesy and no way it could happen. Thumbs down.![]()
The Fighter
Basic Plot: Dickey is a prize fighter turned addict. His brother Mickey is a fighter trying to win a championship while training with his brother and dealing with his functional family.
Cynthia Says: I’m not a fan of harsh language but telling this story without it would have been inauthentic. The story drew me in and a few times I had to remind myself we were working. Christian Bale totally deserved the award; I always forget he’s a Brit and not straight off the streets of Lowell. Thumbs up. ![]()
Hunni Says: I was born in Lowell so doesn’t that make ME the pride of Lowell? The fight scenes were amazing and shot like by camera men who do it for real fights. It was like watching a real-life ROCKY. And now I know the lady (Melissa Leo) who dropped the F-Bomb at the Oscars. Thumbs up. ![]()
Mega Mind
Basic Plot: Archenemies Metro Man and Mega Mind do battle over and over, yet Mega Mind never wins; until one day. But what is the super villain to do without a superhero to battle.
Cynthia Says: We ran out of movies before we were done for the evening so we checked On-Demand. Mega Mind was Hunni’s suggestion and I was too tired to object. It’s a kids’ movie but with a few unique twists. I love Tina Fey & Will Ferrell and would watch it again with a kid. Thumbs up for childhood fun but thumbs down for easy to figure out plot…it is a kids movie after all. ![]()

Hunni Says: Being a kid at heart made this fun. I wanted to see it in theaters but it didn’t pass the “couple” movie test. Glad I finally got to watch it and will watch with church kids movie nights, for them you know. Thumbs up. ![]()
Guardians of Ga’hoole
Basic Plot: Based on a children’s book series the movie is a combination of the first 3 books (there are 15 total). Soren grows up hearing the legend of the Guardian and how they protected the owls…until one day he needs The Guardians to save them all.
Cynthia Says: I’m not a fan. Cartoon movies need fun music, like Fantasia, or funny jokes for adults, like Shrek and Toy Story. The character names were hard to keep straight, so I lost most of the story. I was a super productive envelope stuffer since I was bored. Thumbs down. ![]()
Hunni Says: Finally she let me watch this. We’d seen the previews before tons of movies and this was an excuse to finally watch it…I couldn’t even get it to the top of the Netflix cue. It was like Jack Nicholson in The Birds only the birds were nice and spoke with Aussie accents. [Cynthia edit: *It’s nothing like The Birds.] Story of Good versus Evil and dreaming of the impossible made me happy. Thumbs way up! ![]()
Life As We Know It
Basic Plot: Holly and Eric are god-parents for their best friend’s daughter, Sophie. When they die in a car wreck Holly and Eric are named joint guardians of Sophie and have to find a way to work together and live life.
Cynthia Says: Very predictable…to a point. Baby=stress=fight=back together. I couldn’t predict the outcome of the movie from the start which was a refreshing change from other Katherine Heigl films. The baby stuff was typical and funny at the same time. I had mixed feelings. Glad I hadn’t pushed to see it but it did keep my attention. I could go either way.

Hunni Says: Chick Flick time equals time to rest my eyes and thumbs from stuffing envelopes. The only fun part was Josh Duhamel knocking down the baby so Katherine Heigl could see her walk. It was sweet and sappy but not what I want to see. Thumbs down for typical chick flick.![]()
Throw in an episodes of The Amazing Race and Army Wives that made me sob and the envelopes were stuffed and off to the mail box.
Now we’re on a TV on DVD kick…How I Met Your Mother and Dexter.
Who cares if we are a few seasons behind. Remember my LOST addiction?

Understand the LOST obsession 100% now. Husband and I just started it last week and we’ve already finished season 1.

maria @ Chasing the Now recently wrote about..Friday 5: My biggest running mistakes
Hunni and I flew through the seasons just in time for the final season premiere. It seems we tend to do this.
