Tia’s Bakery Cakes

When traveling most people visit the sights…whether touristy or a little less.  Me…I like finding new fun grocery stores and health food stores.  The joy is in finding the store and then finding fun new products we don’t have at home.

I found a great store while at a conference earlier this week and I’ll tell you about it’s awesomeness later.  But this couldn’t wait.  I found THE best store bought gluten free cakes.  I may have had one each day as a treat and refused to share.  IMG_0259

You would have had to pry the fork out of my hands.  Winking smile

Store bought gluten free baked goods make me cringe.  Unless they are fresh baked – like at my local co-op – they tend to be dry or chalky.  Not trying to judge a book by it’s cover baked good by it’s wrapper I’m game to try new brands and flavors that intrigue me.

Tia’s Bakery items jumped out at me.  They are gluten free, individual portions and flavors I’ve not had since going gluten free.  Even better they were made with agave instead of sugar and several are almond free…a necessity for me.

I bought the German Chocolate Cake with some hesitation.  German chocolate cake is my FAVORITE and was afraid it would be ruined with all the substitutions.

The picture on the box is a bit deceiving with the wonderful layers.  The cake is in one bowl with the frosting on top.  But the frosting, although not authentic, was delicious.  And the cake was soft yet held up to each bite full of frosting and cake.

Pardon the cell phone picture…I was out to a quick lunch and it was so good I had to take a picture to share on Twitter.

I also bought the Tropical Banana Cake because I was so excited.

Rookie mistake and didn’t read the ingredients list.  Tia’s Bakery uses almond meal and I’m allergic.  That didn’t stop Hunni from taste testing. Open-mouthed smile

He doesn’t read the blog but has been brushing up on how to describe things besides “ehhh” and “it’s good Hunni” since he’s my taste tester.  He put his skills to work describing the cake.

Tastes like the cake you make with leftover bananas.  It’s squishy and very banana-y.  The icing is like the fun icing on Starbucks cake.  It’s not needed but makes it better.  Can I have another?

I did taste the frosting before he ate the cake and it was very good.  I didn’t taste the cake, obviously, but it smelled like the banana cakes my grandma made.  Hunni is picky with dessert…if he’s going to eat it, it better be good…so if ate the whole thing (and didn’t give me any more frosting) it must have been good.

I went back and bought two more German Chocolate Cakes because I didn’t know if I could find them nearby.  Cake three days in a row isn’t typical for me but it was worth it.

*Note: I bought all the cakes with my own money and Hunni and I really did enjoy them.  Tia’s Bakery has an online store and I’m plotting which flavors to try next.  Hunni’s requested more banana cake. Winking smile*
